In Colorado, assisted living residences provide housing and personal care to vulnerable adults and seniors who rely on staff in an emergency. To keep residents safe, these settings must have staff certified in first aid and CPR, and must post the list of certified employees.

The first-aid requirement

Under 6 CCR 1011-1 Chapter 7, assisted living residence staff certification must include Adult CPR and Adult First Aid, and the residence must post the list of certified staff. Care staff must be able to intervene with residents until emergency services arrive.

A recognized, up-to-date first-aid and CPR certificate is the way to meet this standard; it is in addition to the staff's occupational training and must be renewed periodically.
